Glenn Ligon’s AMERICA exhibit at LACMA, in Los Angeles, CA.

Inspired by the events of a slave who “mailed” himself to freedom, each packing crate stands tall in a room while each individual crate loops its respective song of choice: on the far left the crate loops a narrative; center crate lowly hums Billie Holidays rendition of “Strange Fruit”; and the final crate on right blasts “Sound Of Da Police" by KRS-One.

Glenn Ligon’s “AMERICA" will be at LACMA until January 22th, 2012
